Today we published the first patch to Coherence Community Edition (CE) release 20.12. Its artifacts are available on Maven Central and its documentation is live.

Coherence CE 20.12.1 introduces a new feature, Portable Types, representing a significant enhancement to Coherence’s Portable Object Format (POF) mechanism for serializing objects in a compact, evolvable, and language-neutral manner. This enhancement eliminates the need to manually code serialization methods and register types in a POF configuration file, while expanding evolvability and improving performance over the previous system of POF annotations. Full details are available in documentation.

Coherence CE 20.12.1 also includes a number of other improvements, and bug fixes, listed in its release notes.

Accompanying the Portable Types feature are new plugins for the popular IDEs Eclipse and IntelliJ. These plugins generate POF serialization code for classes annotated for Portable Types, and are managed as open-source projects licensed under the Universal Permissive License. For installation and usage instructions, please visit the plugin projects’ GitHib repositories and review their README files at:

We trust Coherence CE 20.12.1, and its IDE plugins, make Coherence even easier to use than ever before. Give it a try!
